Robots of the World
Video, 5:43 min, 2012Filmed in the 'retro-sci fi'-looking Prague Underground, Robots of the World is based on the writings of Czech author Karel Capek who coined the word robot. Inspired by the set and costume design of early productions of Capek's play Rossum's Universal Robots, the video shows a cardboard robot trying to perform a number of standard tasks robots are able to do today. The cuteness of the harmless humanoid robot is counteracted by Wikipedia texts snippets about the more sinister sides of other robots/autonomous machines in use today.Robots of the World
Video, 5:43 min, 2012In der an Retro-Science Fiction erinnernden Prager U-Bahn entstand "Robots of the World" nach der Lektüre des tschechischen Autors Karel Capek, der auch das Wort Roboter als Erster benutzte. Inspiriert von Inszenierungen aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert von Capeks Theaterstück "Rossums universelle Roboter", zeigt das Video einen Roboter im Kartonkostüm, der versucht, das Standardrepertoire heutiger Roboter aufzuführen. Der niedliche Aspekt des harmlosen humanoiden Roboters wird Textauszügen von Wikipedia gegenübergestellt, die eher düstere Seiten anderer Roboter/autonomer Maschinen im heutigen Gebrauch beschreiben.
